28/1/2011-Identity;the 3 laws of being a robot.

1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2) A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Do you ever think of a world where the ratio of robots to humans is 5-1,but still we have control over them, due to their mechanical nature of having to abide by three simple rules. With the increasing development of machines taking over the work places, these 'industrial robots' are resulting in humans becoming extinct in the production line.So i ask myself,is there really any need for humans to walk this earth anymore?

Alex Proyas in 2004,created the perfect blockbuster to educate us all about how our world will really look in 2035,maybe a little over the top with the robotic trains dropping off our newest robot to do the housework, but more or less Alex reassured us that we will have the power over them. But how different are robots to human and has cyberspace really blurred the difference,or does the world that we live in adapt us to the changes without us even giving it a thought?

Marvin L Minsky-stated that Artificial  intelligence  allows us to ask three questions:
1)What it means to be here?
2)Why do we have minds?
3)Do we all think the same?
www.media.mit.edu

During I robot, these three questions asked by Marvin Minsky are very much relevant to some of the things Sunny the computerised robot manufactured by Doctor Lenin asks himself throughout the film, stating that he does dream and does have thoughts, although all the other robots are under command by any human being. And to whether Sunny is really a human or a robot?

             A.L.I.C.E-Artificial Intelligence Chatbot

Chatboxs are another way of proving my point to whether identity has changed throughout the years of cyberspace, with the invention of Alice and Eliza, the virtual friends which is designed to engage in intellectual conversation within a range of specific area's.For example,Alice likes to call herself a therapist. Both chatboxs respond quickly and after a few minutes of engaging in conversation with them it is clear that they are a computer generated programme with the likeliness of answering such a question of "are you a robot or a human?" to reversing the question to "why?",this is mainly down to the fact that the character is programmed to pick up on key words to be able to answer in a relevant manner.

So, are Sunny and Alice alike or are the two on a complete different spectrum of the world of Artificial Intelligence?

Growth of Web 2.0 and Beckii Cruel.

From the creation on Web 1.0 where by the public could take control of the internet being able to create websites whereby they were able to promote themselves as an individual rather than following the trends of other webpage users. From the improvedWeb 1.0 ,Web 2.0 was born whereby  graphics and moving objects were involved ensuring that people were allowed to show their creativity and talent in creating an over the top dramatical webpage.

Tim Berners-Lee states in 2006 “Web 1.0 was all about connecting people. It was an interactive space, and I think Web 2.0 is, of course, a piece of jargon, nobody even knows what it means. If Web 2.0 for you is blogs and wikis, then that is people to people. But that  was what the Web was supposed to be all along.”

Web 2.0 has bought many ordinary people into the lime light from Youtube hits which have bought them huge support from the public and other celebrity followers. For example,Beckii Cruel, who's real name is Rebecca Anne flint was born on the 5th june 1995.Beckii cruel has become a huge name in japan from her anime pop dancing which she created with only a webcam in her bedroom as brought her many supporters all over japan as well as a record deal with Tokokuma Japan Communication Co.Ltd.She is the 17th most subscribed user on Youtube, with having over 45,000 subscribers to her page.

There are also many citizen journalists which have been created through Web 2.0,from Perez hilton being crowd the biggest bitch on the internet. To the world renown Justin Bieber being found by Usher on Youtube, which has resulted in record amounts of album sales and adoring female fans.

There are many websites which have been created from Web 2.0,from wikipedia to social networking sites.wikipedia is a prime        example of web 2.0 the information in which has been put on the internet is not written in stone, therefore information can change from time to time. For example, the webpage for a celebrity will change repeatedly throughout the year from events in which they have been involved in to a single or album release to whether they have been given awards or have been involved negatively in the media. Some people feel that wikipedia is not a correct source for being to be using due to accessibility of individuals being able to change information freely, but is this really true, can we change information this easily on wikipedia,or are there rules and regulations?

Wikipedia has rules and regulations to where and when information is able to be changed or created, firstly a registered user is only able to change information which has to go through categories and sent to the main leaders of wikipedia to whether the information is then included onto the webpage:
  • full protection prevents editing by everyone except administrators. Fully protected media files cannot be overwritten by new uploads.
  • Semi-protection prevents editing by unregistered contributors and contributors with accounts which are not auto confirmed.
  • Creation protection prevents a page (normally a previously deleted one) from being recreated (also known as "salting").
  • Move protection protects the page solely from moves.
  • Upload protection protects the file from reupload, does not protect the file page from editing.
  • Pending-changes protection means edits are not visible to readers who are not logged in, until the edits are checked by a reviewer.

News + Technology.

Do we really need to sit infront of our televisions at 6pm to watch the tragic days events enrole infront of our eyes,or has technology really changed the way news is presented to the public. There is no doubt that technology has made a huge impact on the way that we live our day to day lives, from checking emails on the latest smart phone to communicating to friends over social networking sites, rather than meeting in a coffee shop to talk about our days events. With the ability to check information out on the internet in more than just one place allows us to be more relaxable with the information in which we are looking for. From searching throughout your emails on a desk top and a leisurely pace to flicking through endless pages of junk mail on your smart phone whilst waiting for a bus.

So many newspapers prey on the vulnerable celebrities for the latest picture of being drunk and disorderly, but is there really any need for this? Should the British public really be more interested in talentless celebrities rather than horrific scenes of mass destruction. So I've asked myself a question,Do we really need journalists or should the nation decide what is on the front of our newspapers?

Citizen journalism has played a huge role in the way media as been portrayed over the past few years. From the London bombings, where the viewing public talked to the BBC whilst the events were enrolling infront of their eyes.To the vulnerable office workers which were trapped in the Twin Towers on 9/11,whereby the public were the journalist's informing CNN news of updates on
the situation and video footage from mobile phones of the distressing scene's which captured the nation for the upcoming days,There is no doubt that both attacks on New York and London were the most watched news feeds across the whole of the world,Whereby the public took control and the journalist took the back seat.

But before technology took over the world of news, there were only limited ways in which people were informed of breaking news.In 460 Bc,the only way on communication was oral.Pheidippedes ran over 25 miles every day to bring news of the victory of the greeks in the battle of Marathon .This would be seen as unnecessary in the way we live our lives today,as the accessibility of news is everywhere. From local and nation newspapers to websites and mobile updates. From the invention of the transatlantic cable which allowed England to communicate with the rest of the world the the latest Iphone 4,which allows us to communicate with friends be navigated by google maps and have the accessibility of the  internet at a click of a button, there is no doubt that technology has changed the way that we live our day to day lives.
